Dancers Produce a Christmas Treat
Oakham School dancers produced a treat of a performance at their Christmas Dance Showcase, the result of several weeks of dedicated practice at their weekly dance classes. Performing to a packed QET audience, the pupils from Forms L1 to Form 6 staged a fun and highly enjoyable display of seasonally themed dances to get everyone in the festive spirit.
The show included full ensemble numbers to hits by Mariah Carey and Wham! and a routine to ‘Brightest Star’ from the Christmas classic film Nativity! The audience also enjoyed watching a LAMDA duologue performed by Form 1 pupils Safi and Georgia from Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The final show-stopping routine to ‘Sparkle & Shine’ from Nativity! involved full audience participation clapping along to the lively and uplifting choreography.
Director of Drama Gilly Norell said: “This is the first time that we have staged a Christmas Dance Showcase, in addition to our annual Dance Showcase that takes place at the end of the Summer Term.
“I have been really impressed by the enthusiasm and commitment the dancers have shown in their weekly lessons. It is such great experience for the children to have the opportunity to perform on a stage in front of an audience and I would like to thank everyone who has supported them in their weekly classes.
“I would particularly like to thank Teacher of Dance Megan Johnson for her uplifting choreography and Teacher of Acting David Norell for directing the LAMDA piece.
“It was a wonderful way to round off a term of dance and LAMDA lessons.”
