Oakham Sports Scholar Jacob (Form 7) has been selected to join the Senior Leicester Tigers’ rugby team for the 2021/22 season.
Jacob is a member of Oakham’s 1st XV and a graduate of the Leicester Tigers Academy. He was also part of an England Rugby Under-18 North development camp during October 2020.
Jacob said, “I am thrilled to have been given the opportunity to play with the Leicester Tigers senior team and can’t wait to start my career with them. I couldn’t be more thankful to the Oakham coaches who have supported me with everything, from training skills to nutrition which has allowed me to take my rugby to the next level. They have encouraged me to work hard on my rugby without forgetting about my academic studies. Oakham has a strong link with Tigers and the academy working closely with the Academy coaches, which helps.”
Director of Rugby, Andrew Rice said, “Jacob is motivated and dedicated and has the potential to go far. It is an exciting time for him, and I look forward to seeing him develop.”
Jacob has also been offered a sports scholarship at Durham University.
The Leicester Tigers Academy has seen many Old Oakhamians rise through its ranks such as Jack van Poortvliet who is currently captaining the England U20s in their 6 Nations campaign and Hamish Watson, who was recently selected to play for the Lions also benefited from this Academy programme.
