Haywoods winners of the Inter-House debating competition 

Congratulations to Haywoods House for winning this year’s senior inter-house debating competition.

The topic for debate was ‘This House agrees that raising taxes is the best way out of the cost-of-living crisis’. Haywoods was chosen to propose the motion with Clipsham opposing and the teams battled it out in front of their fellow peers in the Wilson Auditorium.

Head of Classics, Will Leveritt, said, “It was an exciting final. Both sides arranged their speeches very well, building from definitions to data to a rhetorical crescendo.”

The judges, which included the Headmaster, Mr Price, were full of praise for the speakers, but ultimately, it was the style of delivery and more cohesive arguments that led Haywoods to victory.

Next term will see Forms 4 and 5 inter-house debating, under the watchful guidance of their Form 6 debating experts.
