Ten out of Ten for IAPS Athletes

Oakham School’s youngest athletes put in some impressive performances at the recent IAPS Championship Athletics, held at Bedford, with 10 pupils finishing in the top 10.

Oakhamians competed against 2,500 athletes from around the East of England in a range of track and field events and showed grit and determination to make their way through the competitive heats and reach the finals.

Particular congratulations to Fleur and Bailey who gained selection for the national IAPS East Area Championships after they secured the top two places in their respective events. Fleur earned first place in the U14 Long Jump and second in the U14 Girls 100m. Bailey ran the perfect race to win the U13 Boys 800m. Hattie unfortunately missed selection by centimetres earning third place in the U14 Girls 1500m.

Director of Athletics, Tref Vandoros, said: “It was an impressive effort from all our athletes. I am very proud of how they tackled their events and embraced the experience, especially in such hot conditions.

“There were some extraordinary results on the day. These athletes have had an awesome term and there is more to come!”

Pupils at Oakham School have been on a winning streak in athletics recently with excellent results at the prestigious Achilles Relays in Oxford.
