An extraordinary day at the Achilles Relays

Oakham School athletes took part in the prestigious Achilles Relays last week. The event held at the famous Sir Roger Bannister Athletics Track at Oxford University saw pupils being awarded four Golds, three Silvers, and one Bronze.

Trefon Vandoros, Director of Athletics, said, “What a day! A fantastic team effort, specialist talent and extraordinary accomplishments. Our day on the track had a very interesting start with the Mixed 4x400m. Victory is only as sweet as the effort to achieve it, and the fight to the finish proved this. A great start to the day, and a real passion stirred within all the runners to do just the same. First, Gold Medal position in a time of 3min 48.6.”

The results:

U15 Girls 4×100 ( P Kanjurs, E Marsh, A Windham & F Lloyd)

Final – 4^th in a time of 55.5s

U17 Girls  4×100 ( E Bell, L Tyers, S Kaczmar, Betsy Healey)

Final – 1st in a time of 51.6s (Gold Medal Place)

U17 Boys 4×100 ( D Osuji, O Marr, T Siwoku & E Ricketts)

Final – 5^th in a time of 47.2s

Open Boys 4×100 ( O Osuji, J Flint, E Powell, D Taylor)

Final – 2^nd in a time of 43.9s (Silver Medal Place)

The 200m relays followed:

U15 Girls 4×200 ( P Kanjurs, L Fairman, A Windham & F Lloyd)

Final – 5th (Time to be confirmed).

U17 Girls 4×200 ( E Bell, S Barrett, S Kaczmar, Bibi Healey)

Final – 1st (Time to confirmed) (Gold Medal Place)

U17 Boys 4×200 ( D Osuji, O Marr, J Braddock & E Ricketts)

Final – 3^rd (Time to be confirmed) (Bronze Medal Position)

Open Boys 4×200 ( O Osuji, A Ryan (Heat), J Flint, E Powell, D Taylor)

Final – 2^nd (Time to be confirmed) (Silver Medal Place)

U17 Girls 4×300 ( Betsy Healey, S Barrett, O Courtman, Bibi Healey)

Final – 1st (Time to confirmed, New Achilles record) (Gold Medal Place & Team of the day)

U17 Boys 4×400 ( J Flint, M Southwell, J Braddock & E Ricketts)

Final – 2^nd in a time of 3min 46.2 (Silver Position)

Open Girls 3x 800m (A Cannings, F Lissaman, M Bairstow)

Final – 5^th in a time of 7min 43s.
