Congratulations to the eight pupils who received Gold Awards in the UKMT Senior Maths Challenge: Seventh Formers Eddie, Stanley, and Ethan, and Sixth Formers Carson, Eloise, Kylin, Rosie, and Steven. Amongst them, Eddie and Carson won Merit awards in the follow-on competition, the Senior Maths Kangaroo.
More impressively still, Steven and Eddie achieved a Distinction and a Merit respectively in the highly distinguished British Maths Olympiad, a 3 ½ hour challenge consisting of six Olympiad style questions.
Second in Maths, David Russell, said: “I would like to congratulate all our pupils who took part in each Maths Challenge. The standard of competition is extremely high, and we were delighted to have 26 pupils gain awards – 5 Silver Awards and 13 Bronze Awards, in addition to the 8 Gold Awards.
“Steven’s Distinction and Eddie’s Merit in the British Maths Olympiad are rare achievements – only around 1,000 students in the UK qualify for the British Maths Olympiad each year.
“The impressive scores of 34 and 13 that they achieved are testament to the extra work that they did in their spare time, above and beyond their classroom work.”
