Form 4 Classical Civilisation pupils explore the British Museum’s Artefacts

17th April 2024

Form 4 Classical Civilisation relished an early-term trip to the British Museum to enrich their knowledge by seeing the collection of ancient artefacts first-hand. Many of the ancient vases, statues, and coins they enjoyed seeing are part of their course.

The impressive artefacts ranged from the huge frieze of the Parthenon, to the 1p-coin sized denarius issued by Brutus and reading the Ides of March.

The sense of looking at the objects which the Romans and Greeks made, used and handled, thousands of years ago, never fails to thrill.
Head of Classics, Dr Will Leveritt

Pupils lit up when visiting the temporary exhibition, Legion: life in the Roman Army, enriching and complementing their studies of this key element of their course.

Classical Civilisation at Oakham School may be chosen at GCSE without any prior study, and with no Latin or Greek involved. It also may be taken up as a new subject at A-level without prior study. Find out more about Classic Civilisation at Oakham.
