Chemistry Challenge Winners 2023

Six talented Oakham School Sixth Formers have excelled in the annual Cambridge University Chemistry Challenge, held at St Catharine’s College.

Talented scientists Eddie and Kiril achieved Gold, Ethan and Stanley were awarded Silver, and Damien and Edward gained a Copper Award in the prestigious scientific challenge.

Mrs Joanne Griffiths, Head of Chemistry, said: “The Cambridge Chemistry Challenge is a highly demanding Chemistry paper pushing the students to use their 6th form Chemistry knowledge to solve problems far beyond the scope of the course.

Well done to all that gave the paper a try and particular congratulations to this year’s certificate winners.”

In May a team of Form 6 pupils, which included Eddie, Ethan and Kiril, enjoyed a fun evening at the Interschools Chemistry Quiz held at Rugby School, where they finished 4th overall out of 21 teams.

Chemistry at Oakham is very popular, thanks to its team of specialist teachers and science technicians. In the Upper School, students can study Chemistry at A-level or in the IB Diploma with Chemical Engineering, Natural Sciences and Medicine popular options for pupils to take their study of Chemistry beyond School.
