Oakham is a caring community where we nurture yet challenge our pupils and teach them how to be independent, thoughtful and responsible young adults, who are ready to take on the challenges of life beyond School.
We aim to offer all pupils the benefits of our exceptional boarding provision in ways that suit modern family life. Key to this is the individual care we provide each pupil so they can discover where their interests and talents lie and pursue them wholeheartedly within a friendly, secure and supportive environment.
The comprehensive structure of our pastoral care, at the heart of which is our supportive House system, is how we ensure that our pupils thrive throughout their time at Oakham. Every pupil at Oakham, whether boarding or day, belongs to a House. Their House is central to life at Oakham, providing a place of security, support and friendship. Sharing a House with fellow pupils gives an ideal opportunity to learn about the values of tolerance, support, courtesy and friendship. It is no coincidence that some of the strongest lifelong friendships are made within Houses.
We believe the relationship between House staff and parents is a crucial one and we encourage communication and involvement. By working in partnership, parents and House staff can ensure the continuity of support that allows each pupil to feel secure, valued and understood.
Life at Oakham is all about balance. Our 50:50 mix of boarding and day pupils and equal numbers of girls and boys live and work together in our beautiful school campus, which is part of the historic market town of Oakham. Pupils who live in the local area enjoy the company of students from international backgrounds and this social harmony forms the basis of Oakham School’s friendly, down-to-earth atmosphere.
