Welcoming our Gap Students
The start of the Spring Term has seen the annual arrival of our Gap students (gappies), who have all come from Australia this year. Gappies work from January to December each year.
Eva, Lucy, Jack and Angus live in a flat on the School grounds and will be spending the year assisting with all aspects of school life. In particular, they will work alongside staff in the Lower School and Sports Department and will be great role models for the pupils.
Each student has been assigned to one of our four Lower School Houses and will use their subject specialisms and interests to help the pupils in their care.
Lucy from Sydney, who is helping to look after pupils in Ancaster House, said, “What has impressed me most about Oakham so far is that both staff and pupils have been so warm and welcoming towards us as we settle in.”
Angus in Sargants House and who is from the Central Coast, said, “I am excited to get to know all of the kids really well and make a positive contribution to their lives at Oakham.”
Eva from the Southern Highlands, NSW, said, “I am excited for the opportunities which the school will allow me to participate in, including sports, extracurricular, excursions, boarding and everyday school life. I know that these experiences will be valuable to me for my indefinite future.”
In addition to their school duties, all four students are looking forward to the chance to explore the area and travel in the UK and Europe.
