Showing Oakhamians that spontaneity is the spice of life, a ‘pop up’ feria came to Oakham School this term!
Head of Spanish Mr Cameron Pauls reports:-
“On the back of the successful ‘pop up’ wine and cheese evening in the French Department, our enthusiastic language assistants created a fabulous display in the Spanish Department for pupils, staff, parents and visitors to enjoy.
Upper School students of Spanish were invited to the ‘inauguración’ de la Feria to appreciate the huge contribution that the language assistants bring to the educational experience of our pupils. This provided the perfect opportunity to connect students’ understanding of the A-level and IB Diploma themes of ‘Festivals and Culture’ and for them to have the opportunity to speak Spanish within a social setting whilst enjoying authentic tapas and ‘rebujito’ (a refreshing summer drink). They even danced some Sevillanas, led by Piedad, our professional Flamenco dancer.
It was a fantastic surprise for our 45 Upper School students and a great way to end the school day and mark the end of the A-Level, Spanish orals. It was particularly wonderful to see some students come out of their shell and have the ‘coraje’ to join in the dancing.
Thank you to our fabulous language assistants, Belén, Piedad, Carla, Marielle and Camille and to Mrs Segura for all their hard work, care and detail which went into bringing such a fabulous experience to the pupils.”
