Virtuosic Trumpet Recital

The halfway point of each week at Oakham School is always marked with a recital in the local parish church, All Saints’. This week was no different as Freddie took centre stage with his trumpet alongside our Director of Music, Mr Davis.

Freddie’s programme was based around his upcoming Pre-U performance module consisting of the first movement of Hummel’s trumpet concerto, Joy Webb’s Share my yoke, and concluding with Virtuosity by Kenny Baker.

Freddie impressively brought out the fluency and musical lines of the Hummel whilst overcoming the technical difficulties of the movement. Freddie then fast-forwarded around 160 years to perform the lyrical, Share my yoke. Freddie’s accomplished breath control, paired with his great use of vibrato, made the performance of this piece stand out. The accurately named Virtuosity rounded off the recital. Freddie was able to show off his technical flair on the trumpet with a breathtaking rendition of this popular brass band piece.

An impressive recital, thank you, Freddie.

Join us next week for a recital of Chamber Music for Strings & Piano.
