Vibrant Violin Recital

Our live Music at Lunchtime recitals continued this week with a vibrant recital by two of our talented Form 2 music scholars, Millie and Faith, performing on the violin as soloists and as a duo.

Faith began the recital with the first movement from the Concerto in A minor by the Italian composer Antonio Vivaldi. Faith played with great projection, paying close attention to the intonation and intricate fingering needed in this piece. Her confidence in third position was impressive and enjoyable to watch.

Millie’s performance of Berceuse by Gabriel Fauré contrasted the Vivaldi greatly with lyrical, legato lines requiring generous use of bow and warm vibrato. Millie rose to the challenge and made good use of dynamics and phrasing to draw out the melody.

Millie and Faith then joined forces to perform Three Duets by Shostakovich. These duets are adapted from the music Shostakovich composed for the film The Gadfly. The three duets contrast each other and require particular skills. Millie and Faith communicated well to deliver a homogeneous performance, moving through various tempos and moods.

Their full recital is available to watch here.
