VA pupils help with Oakham Canal Green Corridor project

Form 5 Voluntary Action (VA) pupils have been helping with the Oakham Canal Green Corridor Charity Project, which aims to regenerate a part of the old Oakham canal.

Head of Voluntary Action Chris West Sadler tells us more:

“For more than a term now Form 5 pupils have been supporting the charity looking to revitalise the Oakham Canal to the north of Oakham.  They have looked for fundraising ideas, created publicity materials as well as designed a new logo and a new strapline.  Our pupils have demonstrated enthusiasm, self-motivation and willingness to work on this important local conservation initiative and have felt proud at the positive impact this will have on our local community.”

The Oakham Canal was originally opened in 1802 and an old, unused section of it still runs through the School grounds. The Queen Elizabeth Theatre used to be an old canal warehouse to the side of the basin.
