VA pupils help out at the Stamford Shakespeare Company

Form 4 Voluntary Action (VA) pupils have been helping out at the Stamford Shakespeare Company (SCC) in preparation for the start of the 2021 season, which opens on Tuesday 8 June.

SCC is an amateur theatre company and registered charity that puts on outdoor theatre performances of two Shakespeare and one non-Shakespeare plays every year. The productions take place at the Rutland Open Air Theatre, set in the wonderful grounds of nearby Tolethorpe Hall. This summer will see our Head of Voluntary Action Chris West Sadler as one of the actors performing in Loves Labour’s Lost.

Chris tells us more: “The pupils worked hard sanding down and painting picnic tables as well as weeding and sweeping one of the carparks. The help that our volunteers have given has been gratefully received. The pupils have also found giving something back and getting involved with the local community a rewarding experience. ‘Act 2’ will take place when Form 5 VA pupils go there to help next week.”

Voluntary Action is an opportunity for pupils to give something back to the local community as their service option. Taking place each week, VA pupils attend placements or activities volunteering in a variety of ways.
