Upper School students participate in table reading of Oedipus the King

On the 29th of March a group of Upper School students, taking Classical Civilisation or Greek A-level, gathered together for an animated table reading of Oedipus the King by Sophocles.

Sophia H, F7, reports:-

“Phoebe G B excelled as chorus leader, performing a great deal of the lyric passages with vigour and emotion. Dr Leveritt shone as Oedipus, and Tom W gave a truly mesmerising reading of the priest.

‘It’s-no-joke’ as Alex P made a very convincing Jocasta! Tiresias was played by Henry T who really conveyed the passionate confrontation of the Agon. Ellie F gave the performance of a lifetime as the Shepherd- one that will stay with me for years to come.

Notable mentions for the refreshments laid on which made the tragedy much easier to cope with!

All that remains is Frogs by Aristophanes next term!”
