Congratulations to the 56 pupils who won certificates in the UKMT 2020 Intermediate Maths Challenge with an exceptional 12 Gold, 24 Silver and 20 Bronze awarded.

Form 5 pupil Zsolti won the ‘Best in School’ award and has also been invited to take part in the Maclaurin Olympiad, a competition open only to 600 applicants nationwide that consists of six problems requiring full written solutions.

Talented mathematicians Will, Menghan, Xinpei, Imogen, Oliver, Megan and Paul (in Form 5) as well as Obioma, Ben and Sen (in Form 4) who received Gold certificates have also qualified to sit one of the follow-on competitions, the Pink Kangaroo (scoring 89+). Meanwhile, Gold awardee Lucas (in Form 3) has qualified for the Grey Kangaroo (scoring 80+).

Mr David Russell, Teacher of Maths, said, “A huge well done to everyone who took part in the competition and it is great to see so many exceptional performances. The pupils are a credit to the School and showed determination and a positive attitude. The competition is an excellent way to encourage mathematical reasoning, precision of thought, and fluency in using basic mathematical techniques to solve interesting problems.”

We wish them all the best in their next rounds of the competition.
