U15A boys through to Rugby NatWest Schools Cup Semi-Finals!

The Oakham U15a Rugby team emerged victorious after an outstanding performance against tough opponents Sedbergh in the Quarter-Finals of the U15 NatWest Schools Cup. The team will travel to Stowe, for their Semi-Final.

The team’s run-up to the semi-finals has seen them beat Loughborough Grammar 51-0, Trent College 25-24, Warwick 20-14, Bromsgrove 15-14, and Sedbergh 17-10.

“This is a magnificent victory for the boys and I am so proud of their achievement”, says Director of Rugby Mr Andy Rice. “Although the School has seen the U18 level compete at three Daily Mail Finals and win two, this is the “furthest” the U15s have progressed in the competition at U15 level. The boys are now one game away from a once-in-a-lifetime Twickenham appearance.”

Andy continues, “We are very lucky to have an excellent coaching team including Mr Steve Dachtler and Mr Michael Passey, who have done a fantastic job with the boys. We are all looking forward to the semi-final against Stowe.”

Meanwhile, in other Rugby news, this Sunday four of Oakham’s 1st XV boys will be part of the squad playing in the Tigers Academy Premiership Final v London Irish at Worcester. Tigers are aiming for their third successive title and are the only winners since the establishment of the Academy Competition in 2018.

OOs Jack Van Poortvliet (18) and Sam Costelow (18) are also currently playing in the U20 Six Nations, and Oakham’s 1st XV captain Kit has been named in the England U18 training squad.
