Swimmer Jacob selected for Team GB

Form 4 pupil and talented swimmer Jacob has received a Team GB call-up for the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) in Maribor, Slovenia, this summer.

Swimming all-rounder Jacob, who trains at Leicester Sharks Swimming Club, last year celebrated winning the 15 years men’s 100m freestyle title at the 2022 Speedo British Summer Championships held at the Ponds Forge International Sports Centre, Sheffield.

The 17th edition of the EYOF runs from 23-29 July and will welcome over 3,000 athletes from 48 countries.

Speaking about the call-up, Oakham School’s Director of Sport Dr Iain Simpson said: “Congratulations to Jacob for this huge and well-deserved achievement.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to compete against some of Europe’s top young athletes.”

Georgina Harland MBE, Team GB’s Chef de Mission, said: “Being selected to represent Team GB is a very special moment, and I am sure that the 39 young athletes selected to take part in this summer’s EYOF will grab this exciting opportunity and use it as an important steppingstone in their future sporting careers.”

You can listen to an interview with Jacob on the Rutland & Stamford Sound Breakfast Show with Rob Persani on Friday 30 June.
