This year, the squash teams have seen tremendous success, with three pupils competing at the squash County Championships during the first half of the term. Additionally, there have been increased numbers of pupils, both boys and girls, taking up squash as their sport for this term.
Form 3 Pupil Lara placed first in the U15 girl’s category, and Head Girl Annie-May led the way in the U19 girl’s competition, and also finished with an impressive win.
Luc, competing in the U19 boy’s category, also displayed his talent, coming home with silver in a highly competitive competition.
Within training and in-house matches, there has been serious competition for the number 1 and 2 spots, with these challengers coming from a range of year groups. Form 5 pupil Oscar and Form 7 pupil Eddie have been tussling with Luc to be crowned number one within the boys squad and in the girls squad, we have seen Sophie, Form 7, and Izz, Form 5, battling it out closely behind Annie-May who has claimed the number 1 spot going into the half-term break.
Squash, a game that is a fun and challenging contest of agility, strategy, talent and mental and physical strength, continues to grow in popularity at Oakham. As the involvement of pupils increases, it becomes more and more apparent that the future standard of this sport is in good hands!
