We were thrilled to be able to re-launch our live Music at Lunchtime recitals this week in the Chapel for our School community. This week’s recitalists featured a selection of singers performing repertoire for their upcoming LCM music theatre exams.
The recital began with Form 4, Imogen, performing The fire within me from the musical Little Women. Imogen effectively used varying dynamics and tone to convey Jo’s powerful emotions.
Millie then performed the heart-wrenching With you from the musical Ghost, reimagining the renowned 1990 romantic film of the same name. Millie demonstrated great vocal control during the ascending phrases and long, sustained notes communicating Molly’s anguish and heartbreak.
To conclude the recital, Evie performed four pieces from her upcoming exam. The pieces varied from Poor wand’ring one from Gilbert and Sullivan’s comic opera The Pirates of Penzance and My life belongs to you from The Dancing Years to I know it’s today from Shrek and Nothing short of wonderful from Dogfight written by the formidable duo Pasek and Paul. As these pieces span more than a century, they require different vocal techniques and singing styles which Evie took in her stride to deliver a top quality performance.
The full recital can be watched here.
