Sixth formers gain valuable work experience

Two sixth formers from Oakham School attended valuable work experience placements this October break to help find a potential career path and to develop new skills.

Rosie spent a few days in parliament working with Dr Caroline Johnson the Conservative MP for Sleaford and North Hykeham, and her team.

Rosie said, “I learnt so much about the role of MPs. Politics has always interested me and working with Dr Caroline Johnson has helped me to further understand the importance of politics. I was lucky to experience first-hand how members of parliament make decisions and the role they have within the community.”

Meanwhile Paul had a work placement with Weiss Technik UK in Loughborough.

Managing Director at Weiss Technik UK, Malcolm Youll, said, “Paul’s passion for physics was amazing. He wants to go to the University of Oxford to study this subject and have no doubt he will. I really do look forward to see what he does in the future to change the world.”

A work experience placement is great way for Oakham pupils to find out what the world of work is really like, add credentials to their CV and to make connections. Each year, Form 6 pupils complete one- or two-week placements hosted by the Oakham Community and Alumni.
