Singin’ in the Rain Hailed a Success at Oakham School

Oakham School’s actors have put on a show-stopping performance this week with their production of the hit musical Singin’ in the Rain.

Talented Drama students brought the Old Hollywood classic to life at the School’s Queen Elizabeth Theatre for an audience of friends, family, and members of the local community.

In one of the biggest casts the School has ever seen, the Main School Production was a roaring success, with each musical number and dance routine wowing the audience.

Whilst the classic song ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ hit all of the right notes with the audience, other musical numbers such as ‘Good Morning’ and ‘All I Do is Dream of You’ went down a storm, with the impressive choreography and vocals each ending in minutes of applause.

Throughout each performance, all of the students impressed the audience with their acting, singing and dancing skills, whilst the set, lighting and production were executed fantastically.

The production was supported by many departments at the School, including Oakham School Music, who performed alongside the cast with a fantastic band made up of pupils and staff.

The classic musical follows the tale of movie stars Don and Lina, as they navigate the transition from silent films to the era of the talkies.

Whilst the power couple have repeatedly been cast as a romantic duo, Lina’s voice doesn’t match up to the standard of sound needed, so a bright and aspiring actress, Kathy, is hired to record over her voice, much to Lina’s distaste.

The production included many technical aspects to it, including displaying several silent movie clips and some audio dubbing.

Gilly Norell, Director of Drama at Oakham School, said: “We were thrilled to bring the music and nostalgia of Singin’ in the Rain to Oakham and our actors enjoyed transporting our audiences into an era of old-time Hollywood.

“Each and every one of our pupils and members of staff who were involved in the production has done an incredible job and I’m so proud of what we’ve all managed to achieve. It’s been a wonderful team effort.”

The production ran from Tuesday 30 November until Saturday 4 December.
