Service Weekend October 2020

Oakham pupils are looking forward to facing a wide array of challenges as part of their Service Weekend over the next three days.

Held twice a year in the Spring and Winter terms, Service Weekend gives pupils an opportunity to do something out-of-the-ordinary: as part of their D of E award, CCF training or Voluntary Action.

Pupils involved in Voluntary Action will be helping in a number of different areas within the community. Groups of pupils, accompanied by members of staff, will be supporting the local charity Root and Branch Out by tidying at the Rutland Farm Park and clearing a stream. They will also be working with the local FoodBank collecting and sorting Harvest donations.

Meanwhile, CCF recruits will travel to Matlock in Derbyshire to complete their adventure training whilst others will build on their military training on the Wilson Fields at Oakham School.

Pupils working towards their Bronze, Silver and Gold D of E awards are setting out on their cycling, walking, sailing and canoeing expeditions. A few groups will be cycling and walking in Rutland and the Peak District, while others will be canoeing down the River Nene or sailing on the Solent. The groups have independently planned their journeys, as well as preparing supplies for the weekend.
