Congratulations to Form 4 pupil Will who secured the U16 title in his Laser at the Rutland Sailing Club and Youth Championships, held over the weekend of 12-13 September.
Well done also to Form 3 pupil Harry who finished 2nd in the U14 category, sailing a Tera.
Racers, who ranged from 6-18 yrs, sailed a variety of boats and enjoyed near perfect conditions of sunshine and a slight breeze with the odd gust to add a bit of a challenge.
Will, who recently moved to the UK from Australia, sailed 8 races altogether, 4 each day and had fun battling to stay in front of the pack of boats behind him whilst skilfully manoeuvring around the marks. His win is even more impressive given that the Laser fleet included the Ladies U16 National Champion and 3 competitors from the top 10 at the Nationals, making the competition exceptionally strong.
Head of Sailing, Mr Nick Neve, said, “It was a busy weekend’s sailing and the competitors had great fun. A huge well done to Will and Harry who showed exceptional concentration and determination and we look forward to seeing their progress.”
