Form 5 pupil and talented rugby player Cammie has been selected for the Loughborough Lightning Centre of Excellence Squad for the 2023/24 season.
The most recent star of our sport&me blog series, Cammie began her journey at Oakham School in September 2022, joining from an International School in Hong Kong.
Cammie also enters her 10th season of rugby. Advancing through Hong Kong’s National Age Grades prior to joining the School, her rugby talent was brought over to England where she represented Oakham School at this year’s Rosslyn Park 7s tournament for the U18 Girls.
Outside of school, Cammie currently plays for Market Harborough U18 Girls (2023/24) and was selected to play for Leicestershire County DPP (Development Player Pathway) for the 2022/23 season.
Prior to the School summer holidays, Cammie was nominated to take part in the player selection training days for the Loughborough Lightning Centre of Excellence (CofE).
This involved an intense 5-week schedule of biweekly training over the summer, prior to selection for the Lightning squad for the Centre of Excellence Festival at Malvern College on 11th August. This was a final trial before the announcement of the final selection for the coming year.
After impressing coaches, Cammie was selected to be part of the squad for the 2023/24 season. This requires Friday night training with elite coaches at Loughborough University, as well as monthly games around the country against other Centre of Excellence squads.
A huge congratulations to Cammie for all her hard work and success over the past year.
