Return of Oakham School boarders

Oakham’s boarders have had a fantastic 3 weeks back at the School since they returned from ‘Lockdown 2’.

The girls in Stevens, Buchanans and Rushebrookes have enjoyed film nights, supper clubs, netball, rounders, house quizzes and sitting around firepits eating marshmallows.

The boys in Wharflands, Chapmans and Haywoods have also been active, enjoying lots of tennis, hockey, football, pizza nights, quizzes, indoor games and watching the six nations.

Lower School boarders have participated in art workshops, played in the park, enjoyed movie nights, played card games and baked.

Hodges Houseparent Martha Backhouse said, “One evening the girls had a cosy movie night in the snug. They baked different types of cookies and then ate them freshly out the oven whilst watching a movie. We also had a little pamper night where we made our very own homemade oatmeal face masks and practised our French braid plaiting skills. It was great fun! Plus we ended up with super soft skin by the end of it so the mess was well worth it! The girls have loved to get to know our tom cat ‘Winnie’ and my son Harvey. They’ve enjoyed the relaxed, homely feel and many of them are sad to have left boarding again so abruptly this week for the Easter Holidays.”

Our boarders Izzy, Yui, Daniel and Yat Fei also chatted about how lovely it was to be back at Oakham in the film clip below:-

Sixth Former and day pupil Olivia has  written a report on what it was like being back at School and compared her experiences to those of her friend Lizzie who is a boarder.

Boarding life at Oakham is always busy and fun, with boarders benefitting from sharing experiences and developing friendships within a supportive environment. Click here to find out more about boarding options.
