Pupils + UKMT Maths Challenge = Success

Oakham School is celebrating after 45 of its pupils have won certificates in the UKMT 2022 Intermediate Maths Challenge held in February.

The competition, which was hosted online, saw 14 pupils receive gold awards, 15 pupils receive silver, and 16 pupils receive bronze.

Special mention also goes to Form 4 pupil Steven who was awarded Best in School and will go onto compete at the Hamilton Olympiad.

Seventeen pupils have now qualified for the next round which also includes the Maclaurin Olympiad, the Pink Kangaroo and the Grey Kangaroo challenges.

Mr David Russell, Teacher of Maths, said: “Once again our students have delivered an impressive performance in the Intermediate Maths Challenge. Particularly well done to those who have qualified for the next rounds of the competition, and also to those who have gained an award of any type.”

“This is the generation of students whose formative years have been most affected by the pandemic, so the large number of award winners shows a strength in depth here at Oakham that is particularly pleasing.”

The next round of the competition will be held on Thursday 17 March.
