Pupils send care home residents and staff cards and uplifting messages

The girls in Gunthorpe House have been sending uplifting messages, cards, drawings and paintings to local care homes in the Rutland area, after hearing that they were struggling in these difficult times.

Their pictures and cards are helping to raise the morale of the residents whilst they have been unable to accept visitors due to the pandemic. The girls also wanted to show their appreciation to the staff.

Mrs Lydia Dunbavand, Housemistress of Gunthorpe, said, “The girls have been fantastic engaging with the homes. They have sent them beautiful cards with heartfelt messages, and the residents and staff are delighted to receive them. A huge thank you to our Senior Tutor Kelly Gibbons who started the initiative. It is a wonderful goodwill gesture that has put smiles on many faces during these challenging times.”

Oakham School has also been working with the community making face shields for homes and key workers with an astonishing 30,000 visors made and delivered to date.
