Protect our Planet Environment Day

This week saw pupils in Lower 1 taking part in a ‘Protect our Planet Environment’ day.

They spent a morning testing their knowledge of environmental topics, doing a spot of research to find extra facts and interviewing key members of staff about Energy, Waste and Food in the School. The pupils also carried out an audit of the green spaces around campus. Armed with this knowledge the pupils will be writing letters to the Headmaster outlining ways the School could become more environmentally friendly. Pupils also enjoyed constructing bug houses to hang outside the Lower 1 classrooms using materials collected during their eco-audit.

Lower 1 pupil, Harry, said: “I really enjoyed exploring different areas of the campus to find materials to create our bug houses and can’t wait to see the finished result.”

Oakham’s Head of Library, Lucy Breag, said, “The day was an opportunity to engage and inspire our pupils to think about the environment and to help take responsibility for looking after the world around them. It was lovely to see the pupils excited and engaged in the activities, wanting to understand more about any environmental issues.”
