Photography Exhibition – Messages

The Art Department is delighted to announce its first online Photography exhibition, which is now available to view on the website.

The exhibition features staff and pupils exhibiting their work, exploring their interpretation of the theme ‘Messages’. They were given a few considerations to help with their submissions, such as ‘What is a message?’ ‘A message that made you smile’, ‘What message do you want to communicate?’ and ‘What can communicating a message achieve?’

Teacher of Art and organiser of the exhibition Jessica Gilbert said, “After the success of our previous photography exhibitions, including Life in Lockdown, we wanted to offer staff and pupils some creative direction to express how they might be experiencing another lockdown. What is really wonderful to see is how the theme ‘Messages’ has been interpreted differently by each contributor, as is the range of individuals who sent in an image. I feel what is evidenced from our open calls is how creativity is for all, and how it is often what we turn to at tricky times to express ourselves and how we are feeling.”

Pupils’ work features in regular exhibitions both in School and nationally. The standard is indeed exceptional, with Oakham pupils regularly winning art and design awards. In non-Covid times, exhibitions by pupils and visiting artists are hosted in the dedicated space at the School, The Wheelhouse Gallery.
