Our Annual Christmas Card Challenge

The Art Scholars were set the challenge by Mr Price to design this year’s School Christmas card with the brief being ‘Oakham School as the focus’.

There was a wide range of interpretations using a range of materials and approaches including digital work and an animation.

All of the entrants were invited to Deanscroft to join Mr and Mrs Price for brownies and hot chocolate and to find out which designs had been chosen. Everyone received a thank you gift too.

Mr Price selected the two designs that most appealed to him and these were used by our Print Services department to produce the official School Christmas cards.

The winning Christmas card designs were both of School buildings looking rather festive, one quite traditional painting of the School Gates and College House by Form 6 pupil Riya, and the other a fun snowy scene outside School House by Form 4 pupil Ella.

Mr Price broke all the rules and chose a third winner this year, as for the first time there was an animation entry by Form 5 pupil Edward which deserved special recognition and will feature in our Christmas e-card and on social media.

The theme of the competition meant that some of the other designs were shared with different departments and used for other projects.

Form 5 pupil Francesca chose to feature a festive Stevens Boarding House on her design which was made into Christmas cards for Housemistress Mrs Roe to send.

Form 4 pupil Alice chose to paint the Oakham School bus in a snowy scene which Transport Manager Chris Dook loved and had made into a card for his drivers, Alice’s artwork was also featured in the latest issue of SpOken our termly Literary Magazine along with still images of Edward’s animation.

Form 4 pupil Leila’s artwork was chosen to feature on the cover of SpOken, see the issue in full here.

All of our Christmas cards were produced in-house by our fabulous Print Services department so a special thank you to them and to all of the Art Scholars that entered this year’s competition.

Merry Christmas!
