Congratulations to Old Oakhamian Alex Stadler (18) who has been called up to play for Germany’s Men’s Olympic hockey squad as their goalkeeper in the forthcoming Tokyo Olympics.
Five-cap Alex has made a big impact for Germany remaining unbeaten since his debut with the German national team last September. He is also currently playing in the European Championships in Holland.
During his time at Oakham Alex played for the 1st XI and won the Independent Schools Midlands Hockey League, competed in the National Indoor Finals and reached the Quarter Finals of the National Cup.
Director of Hockey, James Bateman, said, “It is fantastic to see Alex’s call up for Team Germany at the Olympics in Tokyo this summer and we are super proud to have been a part of his journey. It is a testament to his hard work and dedication – and it’s an even a greater achievement when you consider the disruption caused by the pandemic over the past year”. James adds, “He is an inspiration to our pupils, and I wish him all the best as he goes head-to-head with the top players in the world.”
The number of Old Oakhamians who have represented their country internationally in their age group is impressive including England Hockey players Matt Ramshaw, Ali Eatch, Maddie Pearce, Lucas Ward and Alice Huddlestone.
