Old Oakhamian rugby players’ success

Congratulations to Old Oakhamian rugby players this weekend with Hamish Watson (10), Sam Costelow (19) and Jack Van Poortvliet (19) helping their respective Premiership Rugby Club sides win their matches.

Edinburgh and Scotland Rugby player Hamish Watson, who left Oakham in 2010, was part of the winning Edinburgh 1872 Cup side that claimed victory over Glasgow Warriors (10-7).

Meanwhile, OO Jack Van Pootvliet (19) helped the Leicester Tigers squad beat Bath during their Premiership rugby fixture (36-31). Jack is also celebrating his selection for the England Rugby U20 Elite Player (EP) squad, a stepping stone to full senior international rugby and an incredible achievement.

OO Sam Costelow (19) also scored a fantastic try for Llanelli Scarlets after coming on in the last 15 minutes, helping them to seal a win over the Dragons (20-3).

Director of Rugby, Andrew Rice said, “It was great to see some of our Old Oakhamians in action over the weekend and playing so well. Well done also to Jack for his selection in the EP squad. It is a fantastic recognition of his talent and hard work and an amazing opportunity for him.”

Oakham School has an impressive history of producing rugby talent. Past stars also include Tom Croft (England), Lewis Moody (England) and Alex Goode (England).
