Congratulations to Old Oakhamian, Matthew Ramshaw (’18), who has made his senior International debut for England in the Fédération Internationale de Hockey (FIH) Pro League against France last weekend.
Matthew scored two goals during his debut match on Saturday, helping the team win 5-4. He also put in a fantastic performance on Sunday with the team winning 4-1.
During his time at Oakham, Matt was Captain of the 1st Team and won the County Indoor Title and Silver medals in the Nationals Schools Outdoor and Indoor Championships. He was also selected to be part of the U18 National Hockey squad and won the U18 Hockey Writers’ Club National Youth Award.
Director of Hockey James Bateman said, “This is another fantastic milestone for Matt, and it is a source of great pride for everyone here at Oakham School. Many of us at the School will have had a touchpoint with Matt at some point so when you see him make his international debut it makes you extremely proud. He is not only a fantastic hockey player; he is also a terrific person and we are equally as proud of that.”
Matt’s debut makes three Oakhamians that have played senior International hockey this year. Fellow OO Alex Stadler played for Germany Vs Argentina last weekend as well, with Germany winning both games. Current Oakhamian Lauren C also made her Bermuda debut earlier in the year.
