Oakham’s Jazz Musicians Inspire in Cambridge

The School Big Band travelled to Cambridge on Tuesday 21 March to entertain pupils and parents at two prep schools – St Faith’s School and St John’s College School.

In their first stop on their mini tour, they played to a large and hugely enthusiastic audience of pupils in Years 2, 6 & 8, who clearly loved the energetic music-making and inspiration offered by hearing older musicians perform to such a high standard.

Their second performance at St John’s College School saw Oakham’s musicians collaborate as performers in a combined jazz evening. In front of an appreciative audiences of pupils, parents and staff, our Big Band offered more young musicians a great example to aspire to in the future. The Oakham pupils then joined the audience to support St John’s talented musicians perform in their own Wind Band, Jazz Ensemble and Chamber Choir, or as vocal soloists.

It was wonderful to connect with two school music departments in their way, and as always, our Oakhamian musicians were wonderful ambassadors of the school. We are most grateful to them for sharing their music-making so generously with others in the last week of term.
