Oakham’s Climate Warriors help with the Big Climate Fightback

Oakham’s Climate Warriors have had another very successful tree-planting trip as part of the Woodland Trust’s Big Climate Fightback.

Pupils and staff regularly participate in the Trust’s tree planting campaign and had previously planted a total of 550 trees at the Young People’s Forest at Mead in Derbyshire. The group that took part this Saturday worked exceptionally hard and planted an incredible 616 more trees in a two-hour session!

Trip organiser Mr Vic Russell, said, “I am so proud of all our eco-warriors helping to tackle the climate crisis and learning about the benefits of tree-planting and nature. Today’s group were fantastic and have set a high standard for the next group who go in two weeks!”

By 2025 the Woodland Trust hopes to have planted a tree for every person in the country. All the trees provided by the charity will be native broadleaf varieties, such as oak, birch and hawthorn.
