Oakham’s CCF Biennial Inspection

This week saw the welcome return of Oakham’s Combined Cadet Force (CCF) Biennial Inspection, which took place on the School grounds. It was the first Inspection to be held since 2018 due to Covid.

This year’s Inspecting Officer was Gp Capt Boreham, Commandant Central and East Region RAF Air Cadets, who reviewed the Contingent’s training and standards. Other guests included the Headmaster, the Chair of Trustees, Lord Lieutenant, and representatives from the Royal Anglian Regiment and Royal Logistic Corps.

The weather was perfect and after lunch, the visitors saw the Contingent, which consisted of a range of cadets from years 4 to 7, perform the Guard of Honour, an RAF drill demonstration, command tasks, target shooting, climbing, as well as a section attack. The day was topped off with a regimental dinner.

Major Duncan Wright, Contingent Commander, said, “It was fantastic to have our Biennial Inspection Day back in the calendar again after the Covid gap. The cadets and staff put on a magnificent show and were a credit to themselves, the Contingent and the School – I am very proud of them all.”

It is the 113th year since the CCF was founded at Oakham School as the Officers Training Corps and it’s the 75th anniversary this year of the CCF in its modern form. The CCF at Oakham School gives pupils a head start in leadership and teamwork in both Army and RAF Sections, providing fun and adventure through progressive, military-themed activities and training.
