Oakham’s Junior Boys’ and Girls’ Teams, Intermediate Boys and Senior Boys won Gold medals at the Leicestershire and Rutland Cross Country County Championships at Ratcliffe College.
The successes did not stop there, with a number of individual runners (Harry, Flo, Peter, Helen, Ewan and Rori) nominated to represent Leicestershire at the Nationals in March and several also selected to be on standby.
“What an outstanding effort from all the runners”, says Assistant Director of Sport Boys Mr Trefon Vandoros.
“There were nerves at the start as always, but with such awesome weather, we could not have asked for better conditions. A huge well done to the winners and those securing places in the Nationals, and also to those runners that went beyond their own capacity to achieve outstanding team results.”
Tref adds, “Oakham truly flew the flag for teamwork and camaraderie, returning with 4 cups and more medals than can fit in my bag… and we all know just how big that is!!!”
Oakham enjoys regular success at regional and national level with teams competing at the ESAA National Finals most years. A team of four dedicated coaches has evolved over the past 5 years, helping runners of all ages and abilities to enjoy and improve their distance running and racing.
