Oakhamians and staff attended another tree-planting event in Derbyshire, as part of the Woodland Trust’s Big Climate Fightback. This follows their previous involvement in the Trust’s scheme late last year.
Trip organiser, Mr Vic Russell, tells us more:-
“On Saturday we had another really fun outing to the Young People’s Forest at Mead in Derbyshire where 10 of Oakham School’s Eco-Warriors managed to plant a fantastic 250 trees. Other tree planters commented on how lovely our pupils were – especially when Emma and Ibti circulated amongst them handing out Jaffa cakes! Many thanks to those who gave up their day off and thanks also to the Woodland Trust for organising the event. See you again at the end of February for another tree-planting session!”
Lower 1 pupil Leonie said, “We had a fun day and it feels really good to have made a difference. Climate change is something that everyone should be aware of, and concerned about. More people need to start getting involved.”
Oakham School is keen to educate and involve its pupils in sustainability and environmental issues. The next non-uniform day will be with a green theme, raising money to help combat climate change.
