Oakhamian secures place in England U16 National Age Group Assessment Squad

Congratulations to Form 4 pupil Evelyn whose outstanding performance in the recent prestigious England Hockey Futures Cup has secured her a place in the England U16 National Age Group Assessment Squad.

Evelyn won Bronze in the Cup with her team the Pennine Pumas (15), and her selection to the Assessment squad is a step closer to being picked for the England U16 squad.

Director of Hockey Mr James Bateman said, “Evelyn’s success is a real testament to her determination and commitment to training over the last 18 months. I am very proud of her and wish her all the best with the upcoming training and assessment camp.”

Meanwhile, Form 7 pupil Georgie is representing England White at the major 2021 School Games National Finals, which runs from 2-5 September at Loughborough University. Fellow Oakham athletes Evie and Izzy, who are talented netballers, are also competing at the multi-sport event. The Games will be streamed on YouTube.

Oakham’s hockey success highlights the strength and quality of Oakham’s hockey programme, ably led by Director of Hockey, James Bateman, who has recently been selected to take part in the European Hockey Federation’s ‘Top Coaches Programme’. James is also a Talent Development Coach for England Hockey and is currently at the afore-mentioned Games coaching the England Red Boys.
