Oakhamian awarded commendation in Anthea Bell Translation Competition for Young Translators

Congratulations to Harry in Form 2 who has been awarded a commendation for his German to English translation of a poem by Lutz Rathenow, in the inaugural Anthea Bell Translation Prize for Young Translators.

Pupils learning German in F2 and F6 entered the competition, which is inspired by the life and work of the great translator Anthea Bell and aims to promote language learning. A team of translators from across the UK, along with Oxford languages undergraduates, worked together to judge over 1,000 entries to this year’s prize.

Head of German Mrs Phillipa Sykes said, “We are delighted with this result and look forward to next year’s competition and to opening this up across the Modern Foreign Languages faculty.”
