Congratulations to Oakham School’s Director of Netball, Lauren Nicholls, who was part of the winning team Loughborough Lightning, that were crowned Super League champions at the weekend.
The team secured a 49-32 victory over Team Bath in the Grand Final held at the Copper Box Arena and their achievement marks their first ever Super League title.
Lauren has represented Loughborough Lightning for nine seasons and juggles being an elite sports athlete with her role as Director of Netball at Oakham School.
Lauren said, “It feels absolutely incredible to be a Superleague Champion. It’s been a crazy year and so pleased of our hard work and sacrifices have been worth it. The team is really special, and I have really enjoyed being a part of this journey this year. To say we’re the first Lightning team to win the title is amazing and thank everyone in the lightning family leading up to this moment.”
Director of Sport Iain Simpson said, “Lauren is an inspiration to our pupils and a great role model to the sport. We are so proud of her accomplishments.
Oakham School has a reputation for excellent competitive sport with outstanding coaching and sees teams in the National Netball Finals, consistently year after year. Oakham’s netball coaches also include Elise Whearity and Issy Beighton who have both played in the Lightning Pathway and now play in the East Midlands Regional league. Beth Gabriel, who will start as Oakham’s netball graduate in September, is Lauren’s teammate at Loughborough Lightning.
