Oakham School is celebrating the 25th anniversary of World Book Day today, with the Library and English departments joining forces and arranging plenty of activities for pupils.
Events and activities include:-
BOOK ISLAND: in the Library
Pupils and staff have been voting for their favourite book character to survive the Island. Each evening the character with the fewest votes will get kicked off the Island. The character left standing will be crowned the winner. There has been a surprising start with Harry Potter and Hermonie the first to go.
Form 3 Poetry Installation #ThereIsAPoemInThisPlace: Sitewide
Pupils and staff have been scanning QR code tokens that have been placed across the campus and enjoying performances of poems by Oakham’s talented students. There are also golden QR codes with a special staff recording!
#BookFace
Pupils and staff have been creating a BookFace by aligning a book with their face/body to create a new image. The fantastic results are being displayed in the library.
Drop Everything and Read
Staff have been taking 5-10 minutes to recommend a book they’ve personally enjoyed to their classes and have been reading them a little snippet.
World Book Day books or a book token are also available from the Library issue desk, and there has also been badgemaking and quizzes.
Every year Oakham librarians organise events to celebrate ‘World Book Day’, and this year has been particularly good fun.
