Oakham recently took part in their first virtual live cricket match, organised by Oakham’s cricket coaches Wesley Durston and Patrick Latham.
The event was based on one of the games in the book Dice Sports, which was written by Wesley and Patrick to give people the virtual experience of different sports.
Patrick said, “We adjusted the rules of our own game slightly from our book to enable us to play online live dice cricket matches. Oakham v Uppingham was the first ever live match.”
Wes and Patrick are also working with CricketWorld.com and aim to bring to county cricket fans all the County Championship matches this season using the rules of their dice cricket game. They will play the games at home and submit the scores, daily reports and statistics, which will then be published in place of the cancelled 2020 County Championship.
Patrick said, “There is a great uptake and the following is growing quickly. Cricket World would like us to play and run live the England International ODI and Test Matches this summer. It’s exciting and a bit of work, but the results are well-received and there seems to be a growing appetite for the games. It is fantastic that the whole of the English cricket summer is being played in Oakham this year!”
Dice Sports is available on Amazon and if you would like to follow the action live on Twitter, the official scores account is @aLeadingEdge1.
