Oakham becomes U15 Academy Hub for Superleague Netball Club Loughborough Lightning

Oakham School is delighted to announce that it has become an U15 Academy Hub for the Superleague Netball Club Loughborough Lightning, where players can train and develop their netball skills each week.

Four of Oakham’s netballers, Eva, Clemmie, and Phoebe in Form 4 and Izzy in Form 3, have been selected to train in this Hub and Oakham’s Trainee PE Teacher, Issy Beighton, is also the Assistant Coach of the Academy.

Director of Netball and Loughborough Lightning Superleague Champion, Lauren Nicholls, said, “Oakham School enjoys fantastic relations with the club, and this partnership is an extension of a continuing collaboration between us.  We look forward to welcoming the region’s top players and bringing them first-class opportunities.”

The Hub will use the School’s superb facilities every Friday evening to train and develop players who have been successful at Hub trials. The Performance Hubs will then play each other in the Loughborough Lightning Academy League, with the Grand Final taking place at the Ricoh Arena ahead of one of the Superleague fixtures.

Director of Sport, Iain Simpson said, “Oakham School has an excellent netball programme with consistent success at national level for the U14s, U16s and U18s. Therefore, this association is an exciting development for the School, and it is wonderful to see Oakham at the forefront of catering for such high performing athletes in Rutland and the surrounding area.”
