Music at Lunchtime: Superb Saxophone Recital
This week’s Music at Lunchtime recital was given by Form 4 music exhibitioner, George, who performed music for alto and tenor saxophone, accompanied by Peter Davis.
George’s programme blended classical and jazz works for saxophone. Beginning on tenor sax, George treated the audience to a trio of pieces by leading contemporary composers. The first of these was Philip Sparke’s Moto perpetuo, a lively, witty number, which contrasted with the more romantic Ballade by Keri Degg and Charlotte Harding’s delicate Too far from home.
After a quick change onto alto sax, George performed two jazz standards, Old Devil Moon and Paul Desmond’s foot-tapping Take Five, complete with passages of stylish improvisation.
George’s recital was a fantastic showcase of the variety of music for saxophone, which he performed with great musical style and flair – congratulations! The recording from the recital is available here.
Next week’s Music at Lunchtime concert is given by Millie and Faith who will be performing a programme of music for violin.
