Music at Lunchtime: String players delight in lunchtime recital

A group of talented string players delighted the weekly audience in All Saints’ Church in our latest lunchtime recital.

Maya and Daisy captivated the audience from the outset with a duet performance of Jean Baptiste Loeillet’s Sonata in G major. Their excellent intonation and expressive musicality made the piece come alive, resonating in the church acoustic.

Elizabeth followed them, relishing the rich tones of Fritz Kreisler’s solo Praeludium and Allegro. Her performance conveyed a deep understanding of the piece, showcasing not only her technical skill but also an emotional connection to the music that left a lasting impression.

The recital concluded with an ensemble performance of Schumann’s Allegro brillante from his Piano Quintet in E flat, op. 44, showcasing a perfect blend of instruments. Ethan’s commanding presence on the ‘cello anchored the ensemble, providing a solid foundation for the intricate interplay between the violins (Nicola & Millie) and viola (Elsa). The group’s nuanced performance and skilful navigation of the movement’s technical demands created a rich tapestry of sound.

The recording from today’s concert is available online here.

Next week’s ‘Music at Lunchtime’ will be given by our Guitar Ensemble and solo woodwind players.
