This week’s Music at Lunchtime recital was given by Form 4 Music Scholar, Alex, who performed a wonderful programme of Romantic piano music.
Alex opened with Tchaikovsky’s well-known Juin: Barcarolle, which captures the essence of a leisurely boat ride during the month of June. With his expressive playing of the graceful phrases and delicate ornamentation, Alex made sure to capture this feeling of nature in summertime, and it was a delight for the audience to experience.
In contrast, Grieg’s Wedding Day at Troldhaugen is a jubilant and celebratory piece. Alex brought this lively and rhythmic work to life, creating a sense of energy and excitement with his proficient playing.
Alex ended his recital with the challenging and dramatic Rhapsody in G minor by Brahms, in which he once again showcased his ability to evoke emotion and expression through his playing, leaving a lasting impression.
Congratulations to Alex, who performed his carefully crafted programme with great musicality. The recording from the recital is available here.
