MUN is back…

Oakham pupils will be attending the Cheadle Hulme Model United Nations (MUN) conference over service weekend, representing the nations of Israel and Brazil. They will be sitting on committees discussing significant global issues ranging from the crisis in Afghanistan, compulsory use of vaccinations, women’s rights in the workforce and the Amazon rainforest to freedom of speech.

MUN is one of the few opportunities for truly independent study and for students to gain vital skills for their future. It allows student delegates to gain a unique understanding of present national and international issues and further develops their ability to respond to these dynamic situations.  It also enables pupils to see things from another country’s point of view, help build relationships and develop consensus leading to a more peaceful and mutually sympathetic world.

Head of Politics and International Relations, and MUN Leader, Mr Laurence Ward, said, “MUN is not just an extracurricular activity; it is a global phenomenon that teaches our pupils about leadership and diplomacy. It helps our pupils develop excellent soft skills and the skill to adjust to all scenarios in a fast-paced and challenging environment. It also requires them to build relationships, develop consensus and make decisions under time pressure.”
